We’re often in awe to see celebrities whose bodies slim out or whose faces seem frozen in time, but in most cases, they’ve had a little help achieving that thanks to plastic or cosmetic surgery. But there are some celebrities who insist on letting things happen naturally. From Renée Zellweger’s dramatic new look to Mo’Nique’s 100-pound weight loss, these celebs will tell you that you don’t need surgery to look and feel your best!
Remember Renée Zellweger’s Old Face?
Actress Renée Zellweger came onto the scene in the mid-’90s in the hit romantic comedy, Jerry Maguire. Her star power only continued to skyrocket with subsequent hits Nurse Betty and Me, Myself, and Irene. Her best-known role is probably that of Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones’s Diary, for which she purposely gained 20 pounds, but her acting talents really culminated when she appeared in the film version of Chicago, for which she won the Golden Globe for Best Actress.
But her subsequent films didn’t quite reach the phenomenal success she was experiencing and she even fell into a career hiatus as the 2010s came around.
A Little Lifestyle Change Is All You Need…
Zellweger withdrew from acting for about six years but reemerged in 2016 with the third installment of the Bridget Jones series, Bridget Jones’s Baby. If you think that this looks like a completely different person, you’re not alone. When the actress reentered the spotlight, many were quick to notice her “dramatic” transformation, some even saying it was due to a botched surgery.
But Zellweger dispelled rumors by telling People, “I am healthy. For a long time I wasn’t doing such a good job with that… I did work that allows for being still, making a home, loving someone, learning new things, growing as a creative person and finally growing into myself.”
She Didn’t Need A Facelift To Be Dubbed “The World’s Most Beautiful Woman”
One megastar who will tell you that plastic surgery is not the way to go is actress Julia Roberts. Even in her mid-40s, the Pretty Woman actress looks just as radiant as she did when she filmed that movie. Not bad for someone who’s been featured in People’s “World’s Most Beautiful” issue on more than one occasion. How does she do it? Roberts told You magazine in 2014 that she prefers not to have work done.
“By Hollywood standards, I guess I’ve already taken a big risk in not having had a face-lift… But I’ve told Lancome that I want to be an aging model.” She also went on to say that the key is to remain happy as you get older.
He Wanted To Be There For His Surrogate Son
Television personality Drew Carey rose to popularity with his sitcom, The Drew Carey Show, and then replaced Bob Barker as the host of The Price is Right. In recent years Carey has noticeably slimmed down, reportedly losing almost 100 pounds! He told Success magazine that his lifestyle change came when he wanted to be there for his ex-fiancées son.
“I’ve been super-happy lately. I’m eating better, taking better care of myself… I had diabetes. My kid made the difference. I wanted to stay alive long enough to see him graduate from high school…” Carey’s new lifestyle enables him to be a lot more active and it has also eliminated his diabetes.
This Actress Started Thinking Like A Woman
Speaking of famous Drews, actress Drew Barrymore is another star who underwent a lifestyle change and started living better. Following her split from ex-husband Will Kopelman in 2016, Barrymore revealed to the Today show that she “had to let [herself] go due to personal circumstances.” Subsequent paparazzi photos revealed that she might have done just that, but once 2017 came around, Barrymore admitted she needed a change.
The actress told ET, “I lost like, 20 pounds playing [Sheila on The Santa Clarita Diet] and had an attitudinal shift and plucked my eyebrows and, I don’t know, just started thinking like a woman again.”
Did She Really Not Have Any Work Done?
Actress and former model Kim Basinger is one star who has been under speculation of having had any work done. At over 60 years old, the former wife of Alec Baldwin appears to be aging gracefully and that is supposedly without the help of surgery, her daughter Ireland claims.
Ireland Baldwin praised her mother on social media in 2012 saying, “You are the most naturally beautiful woman there ever was and will be. Your skin care, workouts, and advice on eating healthy inspire me to do the same. Ladies, if you want to avoid Botox and any other skin treatments, listen to my mom!”
This Actress Is Against Any Botox
Actress Meryl Streep has also been questioned over whether or not she’s had any work done to her face, with many speculating that she’s at least had botox at one point. But the Kramer vs. Kramer actress will probably tell you she hasn’t even been near the stuff, as she has been vocally against it for years.
In 2010, she was quoted as saying, “To each his own. I really understand the chagrin that accompanies aging, especially for a woman, but I think people look funny when they freeze their faces.” Streep isn’t the only actress who has spoken out about this topic…
Jamie Lee Curtis Is Anti-Anti
Sure, Jamie Lee Curtis doesn’t look as young as she did in Halloween or Trading Places, but the almost-60-year-old actress hasn’t tried to hide her aging and is still as active in her career as ever. Curtis wrote a blog Huffington Post in 2012 saying, “I am appalled that the term we use to talk about aging is ‘anti.’ Aging is as natural as a baby’s softness and scent. Aging is human evolution in its pure form. Death, taxes and aging.”
Cutis went on to say that despite any lifestyle changes, aging is inevitable no matter what you do to stop it. This is one actress you won’t catch at the plastic surgeon’s office.
The British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League
The British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League may not be an actual club of any sort, but it was started by a group of popular British women who’ve been outspoken against plastic surgery. Actresses Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, and Rachel Weisz have joined forces, agreeing that cosmetic surgery isn’t the way to go, despite so many aging actresses turning to it as an option.
Thompson told Telegraph in 2011, “I’m not fiddling about with myself. We’re in this awful youth-driven thing now where everybody needs to look 30 at 60.” Weisz added, “People who look too perfect don’t look sexy or particularly beautiful.”
It Goes Against Her Morals
Actress Kate Winslet has gone on the record saying that she will never succumb to going under the knife or needle. Winslet told Telegraph in 2011, “[Plastic and cosmetic surgery] goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty. I will never give in… I am an actress, I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face.”
Even actress Salma Hayek might have to join their league, telling Allure, “I’ve never had anything on my face… [Plastic surgery] is like the uniform of a generation. And it’s not necessarily beautiful. It’s not wrinkled-looking, but it’s not beautiful.”
He Couldn’t Even Look At Himself Anymore
Actor John Goodman has been known to be a bit on the hefty side since his time on Roseanne. Goodman’s career only escalated after that, but sometimes so did his weight. Throughout the years the Big Lebowski actor has experienced fluctuating weight, at one point telling the press he was up to 400 pounds at his heaviest. But in 2016, he told ABC News, “I just got tired, sick and tired of looking at myself. You’re shaving in the mirror and you don’t want to look at yourself. It gets dangerous.”
Since then, Goodman quit drinking, started exercising, and changed up his diet. In 2017, Goodman unveiled a slimmer look and admitted to losing over 100 pounds since his lifestyle change.
Her Divorce Had Her At Her Lowest Point
We know what you’re thinking: This woman is a Kardashian, how is she on this list?! While the Kardashian family is notorious for fielding and denying plastic surgery rumors, even though sometimes it’s so obvious they’ve had work done, Khloé is somewhat of an exception. Please hear us out.
This is Khloé at the height of her marriage to former NBA player Lamar Odom. Their marriage infamously ended in a tumultuous and painful divorce that dragged on for years, during which time Khloé was going through “dark and toxic” struggles.
How Khloé Carved Out Her “Revenge Body”
By 2015, the reality star unveiled an amazingly slimmer and fitter look. Her stressful split from Odom pushed her to look for a release, which she found at the gym. She called her new body her “revenge body,” telling Women’s Health, “It’s just as much for all my critics who called me ‘the fat one’ for my entire existence.”
Khloé attributes her new body to a steady fitness regimen and a new diet, which she shares on social media and writes about in Strong Looks Better Naked. Since her divorce has been finalized, the Kardashian sister has maintained her new lifestyle and, of course, capitalized on it with a docu-series on E! called Revenge Body with Khloé Kardashian.
Mo’Nique Did It All Naturally And Says You Can Too
Oscar-winning actress Mo’Nique wowed the public when she unveiled a slimmer look in 2014. The star reportedly shed almost 100 pounds and she credits it all to a new, active lifestyle. Mo’Nique has continually been losing weight and gaining more flexibility, primarily through activities like dance workouts and hiking.
For the past couple years, the Precious supporting actress has been sharing her workouts on social media, aiming to show that anyone could see the weight loss results they seek if they really put their mind to it. In one post she wrote, “Didn’t happen overnight. I refused to give up. Sisters just don’t quit!”
Halle Berry Says It’s A Slippery Slope
Actress Halle Berry hasn’t aged since the height of her fame when she mesmerized us in flicks like Die Another Day, Swordfish, and in her role as Storm in the X-Men series. Berry might tell you that the secret to her seemingly everlasting youth is not found under the knife.
In a 2004 interview with UPI, Berry said, “We’ve become obsessed with beauty and the fountain of you. I’m really saddened by the way women mutilate their faces today in search of that. I see women in their 30s pulling this up and tucking that back.”
Chris Pratt Says Consistency Is Key
Actor Chris Pratt gained popularity for his character on Parks & Recreation, Andy Dwyer who, let’s just say, is a little on the chubby side. But when Pratt landed the lead role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, he shaped up and lost 60 pounds in six months.
He told Self in 2014, “[All] you have to do is just a few things everyday and remain consistent… If you just cut the crap out of your diet, and if you spend an hour a day doing something physical that will make you sweat… you will feel better mentally, physically, spiritually — it is all tied together.”
Teri Hatcher Reveals The Truth
While the Desperate Housewives actress has admitted to botox and fillers in the past, she’s told her fans via social media that she’s given them up for good. In an empowering post from 2010, Hatcher shot back at critics saying, “Thought about all those damn critics of my face. Love it or hate it, my face that is, no surgery, no implants, no matter what ‘they’ say.
Decided I’d shoot myself in to reveal some truths about ‘beauty’ and hope it makes you all easier on yourself.” Teri Hatcher is certainly one actress who is embracing her natural beauty and aging gracefully.
Melissa McCarthy Made A Mental Change
The Mike & Molly actress has been whittling away at the waste and everyone has taken notice. In 2015, it was reported that McCarthy lost 50 pounds and counting, which she credited to a mental shift.
She told Life & Style, “I truly stopped worrying about it. I think there’s something to kinda loosening up and not being so nervous and rigid about it that, bizarrely, has worked… It may be the best thing I’ve ever done. I feel amazing!” McCarthy has shared that she has been following a high-protein diet, in addition to taking on martial arts.
This Actress Says It’s Just A Part Of Life
Julianne Moore is one actress who won’t succumb to cosmetic or plastic surgery, especially for the sake of her career. The red-headed beauty told the press in 2013, “Everyone should do what they feel is best for them. Personally, I’ve not had anything done. My job means too much to me.
It’s important to be able to play women at all points in their lives and I don’t like products that freeze your face in time. I need to show expressions. I’m not crazy about the idea of getting older, but it’s a part of life.”
Nicholson Takes A Strong Stance Against Surgery
The Shining actor Jack Nicholson has been in Hollywood for quite some time, so he probably knows how old a lot of Hollywood figures really are, despite what their faces were changed to show.
Nicholson told Daily Mail in 2011, “I haven’t had surgery. I don’t want to be judgmental, but some of the things you see these days in Hollywood are a bit horrifying… I mean, if someone can fool me with a new chest or lips, then I’m happy to be fooled. But I have to admit I have a prejudice against it. I’m not worried about wrinkles, in myself or women. I find them interesting.”
