As massive wildfires continue to rage on in California, WWE star turned actor John Cena is doing his part to help out the brave first responders that are helping to battle the flames.
Cena’s latest role is a firefighter in the upcoming film Playing With Fire, which is out November 8th. On October 28th the actor announced that in honor of First Responders Day, he’s donating $500,000 to two charities: Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and California Fire Foundation.
“California is in dire straights. It is burning,” Cena says in a Twitter video announcing the donation. “It is under siege from massive wildfires statewide. Which means our first responders are working around the clock and they need our help.”
“On behalf of Playing With Fire and out of respect to the people who I truly believe are heroes, my response will be to immediately donate half a million dollars to this cause,” said Cena. “In times like this, when people are giving their lives and working around the clock what they need from us is resources.”
The wildfires have caused thousands of people to have to evacuate their homes, with more than 26 million people under red flag warnings. Utility companies are preparing once again to shut off power to reduce risks and the fire spreading.
