Houston’s Texas Wildlife Rehabilitation Coalition is unique in the way that it involves the community in its efforts. The center, which was founded in 1979 in response to a disastrous oil spill, offers training to teach community members how to be in-home wildlife rehabilitators. It also gives an opportunity to younger animal lovers. Teens can volunteer to feed baby birds, but working in the company’s on-site emergency room is left to the professionals.
Though the TWRC generally focuses on smaller woodland creatures like possums and squirrels, it’s not uncommon for animals like gorgeous albino vultures or the odd bobcat to filter through their doors.
