Devid Sheldrick is one of Africa’s most famous National Parks wardens, and his wildlife trust does his name proud. The trust has a mobile rescue center. This traveling veterinary unit scales numerous natural parks in order to assist injured large animals like rhinos, elephants, and lions. They also have a permanent rescue center for animals if recovery isn’t immediate and the trust is one of the most successful elephant rescue centers in the world having rescued over 150 orphaned elephant babies.
Recently, the trust rescued a baby hippo named Humpty after finding her abandoned by her mother and stuck in a pool of mud. Rescue workers worked quickly to save her as the mud dried over. She was diagnosed with bad burns and dehydration, and even after being on land for a long time, the adorable critter still thought she was trapped in mud. Because of that, she walks with giant steps, but other than the emotional scars, she’s healthy and getting stronger.
