A 2014 study in the Frontiers In Systems Neuroscience journal tested the adaptive decision-making abilities of rats and mice and ultimately concluded that the two rodents were more or less equal in their ability to adapt to new situations and setbacks. Although rats were better at some aspects of the tests and mice arguably performed slightly better; overall, the difference in intelligence between them is more negligible than previously thought.
