You may already know that television personality Nicole Richie was adopted because her father is the famous musician Lionel Richie. What may be a surprise is that Nicole's biological parents were friends with Lionel. When the couple realized they couldn't financially support Nicole, Lionel stepped in.

Richie and his former wife, Brenda Harvey, officially adopted Nicole when she was nine-years-old. Lionel even wrote the song "Ballerina Girl" about her. Nicole grew up surrounded by famous musicians. Quincy Jones said in an interview with People that he's known her from infantry and called her "a very smart girl."
